A Baltimore County medic unit was involved in a collision with a sports utility vehicle on Wise Ave and Lynch A Baltimore County medic unit was involved in a collision with a sports utility vehicle in Dundalk on Saturday, sending eight people to area hospitals, according to Baltimore County police and fire officials. Justin Tucker Franchise-Tagged by Ravens: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

The Baltimore Ravens locked up one of the NFL's most reliable kickers for the 2016 season Friday, as Justin Tucker was given the franchise tag.  

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Tucker's agent, Robert Roche, announced the Ravens' decision.

Although the franchise tag numbers aren't yet finalized, Tucker is expected to make roughly $4.5 million this coming season, per Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports 1.

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome foreshadowed the move Wednesday, but he also made it clear that a long-term deal is still the ultimate goal, per the team's official Twitter account: "We've had some discussions but we will franchise Justin if we do not get a deal done. Even if we do franchise him, we will continue to work to negotiate to try and get a deal done."

The University of Texas product was named to the Pro Bowl and the All-Pro first team in 2013, and he has continued to produce in the two seasons since then.

With a career field-goal success rate of 87.8 percent, he is currently second on the all-time list behind only Dan Bailey of the Dallas Cowboys.

While Tucker's numbers dropped off a bit in 2015, with a career-low field-goal percentage of 82.5 percent, he didn't miss any of his 29 extra-point attempts, which was a leaguewide issue for kickers after the spot was moved back.

Tucker was among the top performers for a Ravens team that struggled to a 5-11 record due largely to a myriad injuries to key players, such as quarterback Joe Flacco, running back Justin Forsett, wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. and pass-rusher Terrell Suggs.

Baltimore still has a talented roster that is capable of contending for a playoff spot when healthy, and if it can avoid the injury bug in 2016, Tucker's accurate kicking could turn out to be the difference between sitting at home or playing extra football next season.

Pitta Wants to Return in 2016

Speaking with Glenn Clark Radio on Friday (via Sarah Ellison of BaltimoreRavens.com), Pitta expressed his desire to return for his sixth NFL season:

I definitely do want to be on the field playing football. That's something that I really want to happen. 

Now, if it happens or not, I don't know yet, and as much as I want to be on the field, there's also an element of being smart and weighing the risks, which there certainly are big risks in my case. I’m going to do everything on my end to get out there and play, but it’s not all in my hands. Some of it will be involving the doctors and what they have to say also.

We’ve got a couple months to get that all ironed out and figure out what we’re going to do. I really couldn’t tell you one way or the other right now.

According to Spotrac, Pitta is signed through the 2018 season as part of a five-year, $32 million contract he inked before the 2014 season. He's set to earn $5 million in 2016 and $5.5 million in both 2017 and 2018.

For that kind of money, the Ravens might not be willing to take Pitta back, given his injury history. Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun believes Pitta would have to agree to a new contract if he wants to return to Baltimore. 

Since entering the league in 2010, Pitta has played just two full 16-game seasons. In those years, he was a solid contributor, recording a combined 1,000 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

Pitta said the thought of walking away is tough to stomach (via Ellison):

I’m certainly not ready to walk away. That part of it would be tough. Not being a part of that locker room, not being a part of that organization will be hard. It’s certainly going to be tough if I do have to walk away and it’s a decision that I’m not going to be able to make easily. But if I do have to walk away, I’ve certainly thought about that too and will be prepared if that happens.

Tight end is an important position in the Ravens offense. Since quarterback Joe Flacco took over in 2008, tight ends have had at least 64 targets in each season.

Baltimore has attempted to find a suitable replacement for Pitta by stocking up on young tight ends. In the past two drafts, the Ravens have selected three: Crockett Gillmore, Maxx Williams and Nick Boyle. 

The trio combined for 83 receptions and 833 receiving yards last year. So if things don't work out with Pitta, Baltimore has options heading into the 2016 season.

Ravens LB Elvis Dumervil Could Not Have Had Worse Trip to 2016 Pro Bowl

A trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl should be rewarding.

For Baltimore Ravens linebacker Elvis Dumervil, it could not have gone much worse.

Dumervil had initially been named an alternate for the Pro Bowl, which meant he would only go if another player at his position either pulled out because of injury or had to miss the game because his team made the Super Bowl.

It wasn't until after the conference championship games had been played last Sunday that the veteran found out he had been selected to his fifth Pro Bowl.

That's when things started to get crazy for the Ravens star, per Ryan Mink of the team's official website.

Even though he had already gone into "offseason mode," Dumervil was more than happy to alter his plans to take part in the Pro Bowl. But getting to Hawaii did not prove to be easy.

Dumervil first had to take a train from New York to Baltimore to get some things for his trip to Hawaii. But Winter Storm Jonas buried the Northeast in snow last weekend, which meant flying was not easy. The 32-year-old was, however, able to fly from Baltimore to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to Los Angeles and then Los Angeles to Hawaii.

The good news was Dumervil escaped a historic snowstorm for a beach. The bad news was his bag didn't make it to Hawaii with him.

Here's how Dumervil explained his luggage issue, per Mink:

The bags were supposed to arrive in Hawaii by noon the next day. They didn't, and when Dumervil called, he got a, "Sir, we have a problem."

"Your bag has been checked to Japan," the Delta employee said.

"I've never been to Japan, but the [darn] bag has," Dumervil said, now with a laugh as he told the story. "I've been two days without my bags."

Dumervil had clothes and vitamins in his bag. Mink reported that during the first Pro Bowl practice, Dumervil had to frequently wipe his nose, an issue the linebacker said came about because he didn't have his vitamins.

Here's a quick recap: Dumervil had to take three planes to go from Baltimore to Hawaii, had his luggage separated from him along the way and wound up getting sick. All of those issues occurred on a trip that was supposed to be a reward for a strong season.

Good thing his bag showed up by Thursday afternoon. By now, he's had a few days to enjoy the experience.

Let's just hope his trip home goes much more smoothly.
