Ravens Sign Ex-Giants TE Larry Donnell to Contract

Former New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell will get a chance at a fresh start after signing with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Donnell spent five years with the Giants after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2012. His best season came in 2014 when he broke out for 63 catches, 623 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Only Odell Beckham Jr. had more touchdowns on the team.

Unfortunately, his 2015 season was derailed by a neck injury that threatened the rest of his career.

While he returned to the field in 2016, he struggled while only managing 15 catches for 92 yards and one touchdown in 14 games. Will Tye and rookie Jerell Adams moved past him on the Giants depth chart, making him expendable in the offseason.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported in February the team's plans not to re-sign the player.

Despite the disappointing performance from this past season, though, Donnell represents a big target at 6'5" who can make plays both in the middle of the field and near the end zone. He once scored three touchdowns in a Thursday Night Football battle against the Washington Redskins.

At the very least, he will provide the Ravens with an experienced player to add some depth on offense and special teams. However, he can also still put up quality numbers if given an opportunity.
