Summer Smith, a 15-year-old Dundalk resident and student at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts, was chosen as the winner of the 2017 Optimist Club of Dundalk essay contest. This year, the prompt was "chasing optimism in the face of challenges," and high school students were asked to complete 700 to 800 word essays on the prompt in order to compete.
