A federal judge has given attorneys representing the federal Department of Veterans Affairs until Friday, Oct. 7, to respond to a request by a local resident for a copy of the VA lease that governs redevelopment of the former Fort Howard hospital complex. Kathleen Labuda, secretary-treasurer of the Fort Howard Community Association, filed suit in U.S District Court asking a judge to rule on the VA's failure to respond in a timely manner to her appeal of the agency's initial refusal to provide a copy.
