Volunteers clean Bear Creek to celebrate Earth Day

Despite a chilly and very rainy day, more than 160 volunteers arrived at Bear Creek Park on Earth Day, April 22, and nearly filled a 40-yard dumpster with trash and debris they removed from Bear Creek Park and the shoreline of this historic stream, as well as from the grounds of Bear Creek Elementary School, General John Stricker Middle School, Charlesmont Elementary School and Charlesmont Park. The more than four tons collected during the cleanup, sponsored by Clean Bread and Cheese Creek, included 355 bags of trash, five broken fishing rods, four plastic totes, three traffic cones, two huge Styrofoam blocks , a tire, a cooler, a plastic 55 gallon drum and more.
