Darren Waller Suspended by NFL: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Baltimore Ravens tight end Darren Waller will miss the first four games of the 2016 season after the NFL suspended him.

Per the Ravens' official website, the league suspended Waller for violating the substance abuse policy.

In terms of depth, Waller's suspension does hurt the Ravens, who had already lost Nick Boyle for 10 games due to a second performance-enhancing drug violation, according to ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley.

The Ravens are well-stocked at tight end with Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams on the roster. They also signed veteran Ben Watson to a two-year deal in the offseason, so their offense is going to be fine when the regular season starts.

Waller will be able to take part in the Ravens' preseason practices and games but will not be eligible to return until after the team's fourth game on October 2 against the Oakland Raiders

The 23-year-old Waller did appear in six games with the Ravens last year as a wide receiver, catching just two passes for 18 yards, before a hamstring injury landed him on injured reserve in October.

Waller's best chance to make Baltimore's roster coming out of camp is as the fifth tight end, though his suspension could change plans. He does offer versatility as a special teams player and a tall (6'6") weapon for quarterback Joe Flacco, but there are only so many roster spots to go around.
