Justin Tucker, Ravens Reportedly Agree to New Contract: Details and Reaction

The Baltimore Ravens reportedly signed kicker Justin Tucker to a four-year, $16.8-million extension on Friday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the report.

Tucker, 26, was once again fantastic for the Ravens in 2015, hitting 33 of 40 field goals and all 29 of his extra point attempts last season. While his 82.5 percent field-goal percentage was the worst of his career, six of his misses on the season came from 50 or more yards, while he hit 10 of 11 field goals from 40-49 yards.

He was the top-ranked kicker in Pro Football Focus' rankings, according to Eric Eager, and only 13.5 percent of his kickoffs were returned, the second-best mark in the NFL. His presence was a major reason why PFF also ranked the Ravens as the highest-ranked special teams unit in 2015, the one bright spot for the team after they went 5-11 and missed the playoffs.

In his four seasons with the Ravens, Tucker has established himself as arguably the NFL's best kicker, making his value to the team incredibly high.

And he's been excellent for the team in the postseason, making all four of his field goals in the 2012 playoffs—including a game-winning, 47-yard kick in overtime against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round—and all 16 of his extra points that year. In the 2014 playoffs, he again made all four of his field-goal attempts and all seven extra points in two contests.

Suffice to say, Tucker has made himself worth his weight in gold over the past four seasons, making his long-term extension a very smart investment for the Ravens.
