Steve Smith to Honor Family, Friends with Cleats in Week 17 vs. Browns
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. is expected to call it a career following his team's Week 17 meeting with the Cleveland Browns, and the 37-year-old revealed he plans to honor his friends and family with some special cleats in his final game.
On Friday, Smith posted a picture of the kicks—which feature names like former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, ex-Panthers general manager Marty Hurney, former Panthers wide receiver Ricky Proehl, the two franchises he suited up for and his grandmother, among others:
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Smith tipped his hand and disclosed he's likely to retire once curtains close on the Ravens' 2016 season, according to ProFootballTalk.com's Michael David Smith:
I’m about 89 percent sure. I'm pretty sure I know what I want to do. I've got great support from my family, my wife supports me whichever way I want to go. My boys want me to still play, but there’s a little girl, my baby who wants her daddy. Football is a conduit, something that gives you a platform, good and bad, but it gives you an opportunity. Football has given me more than I probably could give football back. . . . This is probably my last game.
Smith has been one of the NFL's premier competitors since he debuted for the Panthers in 2001, and the former third-round draft pick has blown away expectations over the course of his storied career.
Although he never captured a Vince Lombardi Trophy, Smith earned five Pro Bowl nods, two Associated Press First-Team All-NFL honors and the league's 2005 Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Furthermore, Smith ranks seventh on the NFL's all-time receiving list with 14,697 yards, while his 81 receiving scores are good for 25th in league history.
And considering Smith's career could have been over a year ago, when he suffered a ruptured Achilles, the fact that he was able to return to the Ravens and continue to churn out more than 10 yards per catch while operating as one of quarterback Joe Flacco's primary targets speaks volumes about his competitive spirit.

Dreamer's bar fined $2,000
The Baltimore County Board of Liquor License Commissioners recently voted to fine two bars in Dundalk after show cause hearings in Towson. Dreamer's, an adult entertainment bar at 4000 North Point Road, was fined $2,000 payable in 30 days after a hearing on Dec. 19. Mickey's bar at 5200 North Point Boulevard was fined $500 payable in 30 days after a hearing on Dec. 12. In the Dreamer's case, the license holders were fined for drug violations after a woman suffered a drug overdose on Nov. 24 after buying heroin from two male customers at the bar, according to a police report about the incident.

Dundalk church that harbored homeless won't be fined after all
The Baltimore County government has dropped its plan to fine a Dundalk church for allowing homeless people to sleep on its property. Patapsco United Methodist Church was facing a $12,000 fine - - which church officials said represented works out to about 10 percent of its annual budget - - for code violations.

Steve Smith Sr. to Retire: Latest Comments and Reaction
Free-agent veteran wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. announced Wednesday he will retire after Week 17's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, ending his career after 16 NFL seasons.
Smith spent the last three years with the Ravens, continuing his reign as one of the best receivers in the game.
The five-time Pro Bowler did have to battle through injuries in the process, though, missing nine games in 2015 with a torn Achilles. It looked like an unceremonious ending to his career considering he had announced before that season he was going to call it quits.
But playing in just seven games fueled him to return, as he announced he would be back in Baltimore come 2016:
This is the final year of his three-year contract, and he has 67 catches, 765 yards and five touchdowns heading into the season finale.
As one of the most tenacious competitors the game has ever seen, Smith continued to excel as one of Joe Flacco's go-to guys despite being 37 years old, via the NFL:
Smith made his name with the Carolina Panthers, posting seven 1,000-plus-yard seasons in 13 years with the organization.
His name is all over Carolina's record books, and he boasts Hall of Fame-level numbers:
He played a big part in the Panthers winning the NFC title in 2003 as they fell just short to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII.
It will be the one glaring absence on his career resume as Smith will ride off into the sunset without a championship.
However, that should do little to take away from the stellar career he pieced together for 16 years.

The county Board of Education approved more than $18 million in contracts to upgrade electrical systems and install air conditioning at four Dundalk elementary schools. Another slap in Dundalk's face
If there was any doubt that County Executive Kevin Kamenetz ignores the needs of Dundalk, all doubt has been erased with his latest maneuver to ask the state to contribute $2.3 million from Program Open Space to build a new 9,800 square foot indoor horse riding center in campaign donor-rich Cockeysville, while at the same time planning to sell the North Point Government Center to a developer. Kamenetz cloaked the development of the riding center in secrecy, failing to obtain input from the community or the nonprofit Maryland Agricultural Resource Council and doing away with a public presentation.

Devin Hester Waived by Ravens: Latest Comments and Reaction
The Baltimore Ravens have waived return specialist Devin Hester, the team announced Tuesday.
Hester, 34, has worked as a receiver at times throughout his career but has seen action exclusively on special teams for Baltimore in 2016. In 12 games, he has totaled 180 punt return yards with an average of 7.2 yards per return to go with 466 kickoff return yards at 24.5 per attempt.
Lardarius Webb (two punt returns) and Chris Moore (one kickoff return) are the only other Ravens to factor in the return game this season.
Hester spent the first eight years of his career with the Chicago Bears before joining the Atlanta Falcons for two seasons. He is known as one of the best returners of all time, totaling five career kickoff returns for a touchdown and an NFL-record 14 touchdowns off punt returns.
He was named to four Pro Bowls and has been selected first-team All-Pro in three different seasons as a returner.
Although he spent time as a receiver with both the Bears and Falcons, he hasn't caught a pass since 2014. His best offensive year came in 2009 when he totaled 57 catches for 757 receiving yards. In his career, he has 255 catches, 3,311 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Mark Viviano of WJZ argued Hester isn't what he once was:
On the other hand, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggested a possible move to the New England Patriots, who had two special teams turnovers in Monday's game against the Ravens.

Jimmy Smith Injury: Updates on Ravens Star's Ankle and Return
Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith suffered an ankle injury in Week 14 against the New England Patriots and would not return. He was injured making a goal-line tackle in the first quarter.
His playing status for Week 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles has yet to be announced.
Continue for updates.
Smith Injury Details Revealed
Monday, Dec. 12
Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced Smith has a sprained ankle and did not mention how long he'll be out of action.
Smith Has Emerged as Essential Piece to Ravens D
Smith has developed into a valuable member of the Ravens defense, starting every game he has played in during the last four seasons. The 2011 first-round pick continued to get better, posting his best year in 2015 with 54 tackles and three interceptions.
The 6'2", 210-pound cornerback continued to make plays against the pass in 2016 even when his numbers didn't match his impact.
The problem is the better Smith has played, the more he has been missed when out of the lineup. He was unavailable earlier this year with a back injury, leading to a major hole in the Ravens' passing defense.
"It presents a tough challenge as a defense when you don't have your best corner out there," safety Eric Weddle said after a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, per Garrett Downing of the team's official site.
Baltimore might have to learn how to survive without Smith once again after his latest injury. Shareece Wright will see an increase in responsibility, while Tavon Young and Jerraud Powers will also have to step up in the starter's absence.
